Volunteer communication

Keep your youth volunteers on the same page

Group texts get buried, emails go unread, and the one volunteer who missed the change shows up at the wrong place. Roots gives your youth ministry team one place to talk, and announcements that reach every leader the way they actually read.

How your team stays connected

Team chat with channels

One chat for the whole team, plus channels for smaller groups like middle school leaders or the worship team.

Announcements that reach everyone

Post once. Leaders see it in the app, get it by email, and get a text if they turned texts on.

Event chats

Every event gets its own chat beside the itinerary and check-in list, so trip details stay with the trip.

Prayer board and polls

Share prayer needs with the team and settle a date or a question in a quick poll.

Announcements by text, done right

Texts reach people who never open email. In Roots, leaders choose to get announcements as a text from the Ministry Roots number; it’s off until they turn it on, and anyone can reply STOP.

Texts go only to adult leaders who opted in. Students are never texted. Read exactly how texts work on our SMS terms page.

Communication tied to the students you serve

Most church communication tools are built for broadcasting to a whole congregation. Roots is built for a team caring for the same group of students, so the chat sits right next to the student profiles, small groups and events it’s about. For practical habits that keep a volunteer team together, read how to train small group leaders.

Questions leaders ask

What's the best way to communicate with youth volunteers?

Use one place for the team conversation and send announcements the way each leader actually reads them. In Roots, announcements go out in the app, by email, and by text for leaders who opt in.

Can we text our youth group students through Roots?

No. Roots texts only adult leaders who opted in to announcements. Students are never texted and don’t have accounts.

Is texting included in the price?

Yes. Texts come with team announcements on Grove and Forest, with no extra charge per text. See pricing for what each plan includes.

Can different groups of leaders have their own conversations?

Yes. Owners can create channels for part of the team, alongside the main team chat and a chat for each event.
